The Wolf Pack (11-8-0-1, 23 pts.) are tied for fourth place in the Atlantic Division, after gaining three out of a possible six points in three non-division games this past week. The Pack went to a shootout for the first time on the season Wednesday at home against Binghamton, and ended up on the short end of a 2-1 loss. The next night at the XL Center, Ken Gernander’s club rebounded with a 5-3 triumph over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Saturday, though, saw a four-game Wolf Pack points streak (3-0-0-1) come to an end, as the Pack lost 2-1 in Syracuse. Corey Locke chalked up six points (2-4-6) in the three games, including two goals and two assists in Thursday’s win, to become the first AHL player this year to hit the 30-point mark (11-19-30 in 20 GP).
This week:
The Wolf Pack celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with four Atlantic-Division games this week. The Pack make their first visit of the season to Lowell on Wednesday (7:00 faceoff), before returning to the XL Center for a Guida’s Family Value Night date with the Portland Pirates on Friday (7:00). The Wolf Pack are back on home ice on Saturday (7:00), hosting Providence, and then finish off the busy week in Bridgeport on Sunday. That GEICO Connecticut Cup contest faces off at 3:00.

From the Mayor’s Desk: Sometimes being mayor can actually be fun. Last Saturday afternoon, Mary Ann from Ridge Antiques called and asked me to come by and pick up two dogs that had come into her shop, and since Max was not around, I went down and found two of the most adorable dogs that anyone could ask for. I waited all afternoon, hoping that someone would come by looking for them. If you have lost two of your pets, please call me or Town Hall, and don’t wait too long I am growing to like them. Tuesday morning the town sponsored a Business Appreciation Breakfast with about seventy business owners, ministers, town employees, and library volunteers in attendance. Speakers included Doris Jones who spoke about the 2010 Census, Elizabeth Harm from the National Heritage Corridor, and Jeanne Velie who spoke to the group about the town’s website and brochures Among the many monuments they visited, first on the list was the World War II monument. (there is a picture of the group in front of the monument on the web site, Joe’s brother is wearing a Clemson jacket and Joe is right next to him) Then they went to the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial (Joe said this was the only sad part because these Vets were not welcomed home) the Korean Conflict ( the forgotten one), the Washington Mall, the Air Force Memorial, The C B’s Memorial, and Arlington National Cemetery. Joe was afraid the piece of shrapnel in his leg would give him a hard time getting through the metal detector, but he finally made it. When they arrived back at Columbia around 7:30, family and friends were there to greet them, including Betty and their children and families. Mike “Mickey” Watson, Joe’s brother took his daughter Caroline. We want to recognize the Cedar Creek Youth Group for their generous improvement project that can be seen outside the track. Beautiful work! We also want to thank Mayor Asbill, the Town Library, and Ridge Hill Baptist for being wonderful hosts for our community meetings. We just received a grant for nearly $5,000.00 to advance our technology accessibility at the school. In conjunction with Pond Branch we applied for and received a grant from the Foundation for Rural Education and Development. Next week is American Education Week.  The Beta Club and Teacher Cadets are hosting a breakfast for faculty and staff next Wednesday morning.  We are also honoring a different type of educational personnel each day with special recognition and prizes.  The students will also be able to win prizes by answering trivia questions each day. There will be a Flag Football Game on Friday, November 20 to help purchase new uniforms for the football team. The faculty/staff will face-off against the middle school students. Winter MAP Testing will be held from November 30 until January 8. Please encourage your child to perform at his/her best on these tests as teachers use the testing information to plan lessons and activities for their students. “The Star Center Community Girl Scout Troops 2081, 2085 and 2086 are the other great troops in the Ridge Spring area. We meet on the first and third Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. at the Star Center, located on Ridge Hill Drive (past the RSM Elementary School). Our troop and leader information are as follows: Troop 2081 (Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors) is led by Mrs. Effie Martin, Ms. Cynthia Clark and Mrs. Cheryl Cummings; Troop 2085 (Daises and Brownies) is led by Ms. D’Vay Davis and Miss Shanice Martin; and Troop 2086 (Juniors) is led by Ms. Kimberly Smith and Mrs. Consuelo Davis-Merritt.  Please contact any of these leaders if you would like registration information. Our troops are open to all girls and adult women that may be interested in volunteering for this worthy organization.” winners read their Veteran’s Day essays.
