Having your own website is almost necessary today. Websites are very important tools whether you use them for your individual or organizational needs. There are various companies out there that offer free web hosting services. However, some of these free web hosting services are just scams. There are many types of web hosting scams and rip-offs you have to be wary of. Read on to know the signs of a fraud web hosting service.
Sign #1: Domain registration messages
Be wary of domain registration messages you receive. You may not know it but you can be a prey to domain registration scams. You really have to be careful because many fraudulent domain registration notices do really look authentic. One of the ways to avoid being scammed is to check your record and determine if the one sending the notice is the actual registrar for your domain.
Sign #2: Free search engine submission offers
There are web hosting companies that would claim that they will provide you with free search engine submissions. This becomes a scam because, in reality, these search engine submissions are already free. Without the aid of any web hosting company, you can submit sites to many of these search engines without paying for anything.
Sign #3: Kidnapping domain names
Kidnapping a domain name is done when you want to move from a crooked web hosting company but that company set ploys to keep you from leaving. Some of the ploys include holding your domain name hostage until the contract is through, making you leave your domain on their site and just redirect you to the new server, and not allowing you to transfer to your new host but instead switch it to the site the web hosting company owns.
Sign #4: Reseller host
A reseller host purchases a space and then parades as the real host, selling the space they bought to a lot of clients. A reseller host is sometimes not easy to identify simply because it won’t tell you that it is not the real host. The problem with this one is when the person who sells the space gets into financial trouble, your site may probably go down without you knowing the reason behind it.
If you don’t want to be the next victim of web hosting scams and rip-offs, you should be careful in finding an authentic web hosting company.
