Local Internet Service Provider (ISP) Web Africa has migrated its hosting service to their new network, offering significantly more value to its customers. As of December 15th, hosting disk space will increase by up to 400%, while traffic increases by up to a massive 700%. Traffic will be coming in at R20 per GB on the lower to mid range packages and dropping to as low as R11 per GB on the higher end packages.
The new prices offer up to five times more capacity than the current packages in South Africa. According to the company the new pricing models are expected to change the face of local web hosting by bringing content and bandwidth back to South Africa.
According to CEO Matthew Tagg, this was possible because of the ISP’s development of its own network, which led to Web Africa becoming a Tier 1 provider. “These substantial efficiencies are only possible because of our new network. As promised, we have brought about the hosting efficiency increases as one of the first changes and have passed these savings on to our customers,” he says.
According to Tagg Web Africa’s new network is offering lower ping times and faster throughput than the previous network, ensuring that their customers’ sites load faster than before.
Web Africa will further reshape its reseller model to make it more sustainable and affordable for its partners. Current packages will be put on hold, and resellers will be given the opportunity to migrate to the new model. New package logistics are currently being developed, and will be implemented in March 2010.
“We are delighted to be able to provide a local web hosting offering that can compete on a global level,” says Tagg. “By choosing Web Africa, companies are hosting their content in a carrier-neutral environment, thanks to our data centre partner, Teraco. This offers even greater levels of reliability and redundancy for our hosting environment and allows us to focus on core competencies. Furthermore it means the start of local peering which will allow us to bring better value to customers in the new year."
“Soon we will migrate our ADSL service to our new network, with better value packages which are planned for February next year,” Tagg added.

The Internet is a vast world and many offer a variety of information, services and products. Many companies spend billions of dollars per year to support the development and management of the company website. But the average Internet user has a simple web site that requires a simple website. If you have a website where you can anticipate the volume of high traffic and complex transactions in e-commerce you should be able to navigate through the maze of the web that can receive the package to select the appropriate package for your webiste? You do not need to find a site that receives a package with a very large cost because they do not compromise the integrity and reliability.
Thanks to the growth and competition in the Internet, you do not have to buy a package that can be developed and the price is quite expensive for a web hosting service that offers a variety of service packages that are not needed. Now there are various discounts offered by many web hosting companies even offer a template for web design that can give you freedom to go and take an idea the idea for a website that allows you to refine a system of sites on the internet.
Web hosting basics Web hosting is a service that allows someone to be able to upload quickly and easily to your web site from your computer to have a shared or dedicated server and then remained on the Internet. Along with the cost of website packages that you receive this service offering, and usually with a good approach and put together if you take the package. Package that could limit the number of files you can store on a server is likely to use shared servers and have a limited amount of e-mail and Web-based views to your website. But do not ever accept the conjecture that the web budget means you have to compromise their service levels. There are several companies that offer a variety of exceptional services at affordable prices.
With so many choices … how do you choose?
PhpBB is an open source forum software that anyone can download and use. It is free to use, and many webmasters like to use this software to run online communities. Of course, you have to ensure that the software works seamlessly with your web hosting service provider. Here is how to choose a compatible host for PhpBB.
1) Linux hosting
Since the software is written in PHP, it’s best that you choose Linux hosting. Windows servers can also run PHP scripts, but some features do not run in a Windows environment (e.g. mod rewrite). Mod rewrite is important for SEO purposes.
2) Cpanel control panel
Most Linux servers come with free Cpanel admin control panel. Once you have access to the control panel, you can login and install the PhpBB script. Cpanel also comes with Fantastico. This useful feature can help you install the forum within minutes. It offers an easy to use installation wizard, which promote, guide and assist you with the entire installation process.
3) Hosting space and bandwidth
The hosting industry is very competitive. Today, you find that you can unlimited hosting space and bandwidth on shared hosting plans. Usually, if you run static sites on these plans, you will not encounter any problems. However, if you intention is to run a forum, your site may eventually end up hogging too much resources.
The problem with running a forum is that if the site grows too fast, there will be too many concurrent users connecting to the server. This means that the number of requests that is sent to the server will be dramatically increased. Sometimes, this may cause the server to slow down temporary. If the same issue occurs on numerous occasions, other users of the same shared environment may start to complain. As a result, your hosting account may be suspended temporarily.
Therefore, to avoid having your hosting account disrupted, always make sure that you plan for the growth of your site. If you see that the site is growing rapidly, make plans to migrate the site to a more stable environment. For instance, instead of hosting the site on a shared hosting plan, host it on a VPS hosting package. With a VPS plan, you get dedicated server resources and admin rights. As a general rule of thumb, you can continue using the shared plans if you site has less than 2000 members. Anything more than 2000 members, you will have to consider taking up VPS or dedicated hosting.
Of course, VPS and dedicated hosting cost a lot more when compared to shared hosting. So if you starting a brand new forum, it is completely alright to setup the forum on a shared server. It takes time for the form to grow to several thousand members. So you may be saving on hosting fees for the first 6 months or so.
When the forum starts to gain momentum, migrate the entire site to a new hosting environment with more resources.
